As part of our cultural activism, Rob and Dong web series feature the arts and cultural scenes in Metro Vancouver mostly targeting the local Chinese language audience. Chinese speaking communities have been active in real estate, technology, and other business sectors, but their presence in the art scene is disproportionately limited. This is in part due to the lack of language skills and cultural barriers, and in part due to business minded mentality and other social values. The web series attempts to offset the imbalance of art and business by facilitating the access to the local art activities, cultural events, and other art-related communications, and cultivating the passion to explore the wonderful arts around the neighbourhood. This video projects are very meaningful to the local art organizations and practitioners as we are helping to bring in more patrons. As a an art educator myself based in Vancouver, I have the vision of this unique community building project. We have the enticing look to interest the audience, but we go beyond the superficial touristy content. The videos serve as an entertainer and more importantly an educator. Our aim is to address the perceived issues around Chinese newcomers to Canada, such as indifference to arts, lack of engagement with the locals, dispassionate towards their surrounding communities. We are not to discuss the truth and false of these issues, we focus on presenting the arts and culture contents that everyone can enjoy, and we believe this is the kind of cultural activism to improve the cultural living of these Chinese people and with our intervention, we hope that our videos would encourage more Chinese newcomers to cross the boundary and actively engage with the diverse arts and culture Metro Vancouver has to offer.
